Sadc Troika heads to Maputo

President Mnangagwa will on Thursday join SADC leaders that make up the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation to explore avenues of putting an end to the terrorist attacks that have rocked Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province.
Chair of the security organ, Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa are expected to attend the key meeting.
Deputy Chief Secretary Presidential Communications in the Office of the President Mr George Charamba, confirmed the meeting to The Herald last night.
Mr Charamba said the meeting was scheduled for Maputo.
As the outgoing chair, Zimbabwe is part of the Troika together with the incoming chair, South Africa.

Turkey on April 5 detained 10 retired admirals for signing a statement in support of the 1936 Montreux Convention, accusing them of conspiring against the constitutional order.
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said that arrest warrants had been issued for 10 suspects and ordered four other suspects to report to Ankara police within three days, opting not to detain them because of their age.
The prosecutor’s office opened a probe on April 4 into the retired admirals on suspicion of an “agreement to commit a crime against the state’s security and constitutional order.”

“Let us continue to observe the health and safety protocols to protect ourselves from the virus, and ensure our safety and those of our loved ones,” he said in a statement.
“We also ask those in the areas that have been placed under ECQ (enhanced community quarantine) to stay at home as religious gatherings have been prohibited and to adhere to the 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. curfew hours.”
This is the second time the country is observing the Holy Week under strict safety guidelines and regulations because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
