COVID-19: Nigeria records 156 new cases, one death
With the new cases, Nigeria has recorded a total of 164,912 infections as of April 27.
Nigeria on Tuesday reported one COVID-19 death and 156 new infections in 11 states.
The death toll from the disease in Nigeria has reduced recently with only two fatalities recorded in about two weeks.
With one new death on Tuesday, the fatality toll rose to 2,063 in total.

According to the NCDC, the 156 new cases were reported from 11 states: Lagos-50, Enugu-43, Adamawa-40, FCT-8, Ogun-5, Akwa Ibom-3, Plateau-3, Jigawa-1, Kaduna-1, Oyo-1 and Rivers-1

As India continues to set a new global record for a rise in daily coronavirus cases for a fifth straight day, while deaths from COVID-19 also jumped by an all-time high over the last 24 hours, the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 (PSC) has warned Nigerians to brace up for a third COVID-19 wave.
On Sunday, India reported 346,786 new cases of COVID-19 for the previous 24 hours, with 2,624 deaths – the world’s highest daily toll since the pandemic began last year. Overall, nearly 190,000 people have died from COVID in the country, while more than 16.6 million have been infected.

The Federal Government has warned Nigerians against travelling to countries that are recording a third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially India where they largely go to for medical tourism.
It also listed South Africa, Turkey and Brazil in the travel advisory.
The Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, formerly Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, also has warned Nigerians against shunning safety protocols against the virus, saying the pandemic was not over.
The National Incident Manager, PSC, Dr Mukhtar Muhammad, spoke at the media briefing by the committee on Monday.

The Presidential Steering Committee PSC on COVID-19 has expressed concerns over the emergence of new variants of the novel coronavirus, but assured that the federal government remains at alert to ward off any threat.
This was as the National Primary Health Care Development Agency NPHCDA announced that Nigeria has recorded 8,711 cases of mild vaccine adverse effects and 52 cases of moderate to severe side effects.
It also announced that the federal government has signed up for 28 million doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine which are expected to be delivered by the end of May.
