Ivorian Prime Minister Hamed Bakayoko has died from cancer in a German hospital two days after President Alassane Ouattara named his Chief of Staff, Patrick Achi as a replacement.
Bakayoko, 56, a media executive turned politician was seen as a possible successor to President Ouattara, 79, who won a controversial third-term victory in the October 2020 polls boycotted by Ivorian opposition parties.
Bakayoko had also doubled as Defence Minister and successor to former Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly, who died suddenly in July 2020. Ouattara had handpicked Coulibaly as his successor before he eventually changed his mind to run for a third-term.

This Report on the status of implementation of the activities of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) is prepared pursuant to Chapter VII, Article 7.9 of the R-ARCSS and covers the period 1st October to 31 st December 2020. With almost a year into the Transitional Period completed, the Report highlights the decided lack of progress on the Pre-Transitional activities carried over after the initial formation of the Revitalised Transitional Government of National Unity (RTGoNU) on 22 February 2020, as well as failure to undertake tasks scheduled during the Transitional Period.
