Man set to stand trial over BAE bomb hoax this month

Barrow shipyard A MAN accused of causing a bomb scare at the shipyard is to stand trial later this month. Michael Turnbull is alleged to have told a member of staff at the BAE site that there was a bomb onboard a submarine, knowing this was false. The charge relates to an incident in April 2019, when 2,000 workers had to be evacuated from the site. Police and paramedics were called to the shipyard just after 9am on the day following an anonymous tip-off that there was a bomb on one of the Astute vessels. BAE bosses later revealed that, after a thorough search of four boats, they believed the scare to be a hoax.
