Parents of students transported by Prairie Spirit School Division into Saskatoon are weighing their options as the division ends a long-running school bus service.
The GEMS transportation service has been running for about 25 years and provides students from just west of the city the ability to attend school in Saskatoon.

“GEMS” encompasses the Gideon, Ebzel, Merrill and Smithville school areas; its name stems from the old country schools in that region.

Several school divisions in Saskatchewan have cancelled bus service for its students due to persisting cold weather.
All school buses and para transit for Regina Public and Regina Catholic schools were cancelled Thursday morning due to the extreme wind chill values. All schools remain open.
Saskatoon Public School Division has also cancelled all its bus services as temperatures felt as cold as -54 C with the windchill. All schools are open and classes will run as scheduled.
REGINA School transportation for students in Regina has been cancelled for the second day in a row due to extreme wind chills throughout southern Saskatchewan. In news releases, both Regina Public Schools and the Regina Catholic Schools Division announced the cancellation of bus services for Tuesday morning. Prairie Valley School Division also cancellations transportation for all students within the Regina Weather Tower area. All three divisions ask that parents report absences to schools, to make sure all students are safe. Regina schools remain open. All Regina Public School Transportation cancelled on Tuesday, February 9th due to the extreme windchill and temperature. All schools are open. Please report all absences to schools.
