Britain won t vaccinate all 30million vulnerable residents against Covid for a decade, if Number 10 s mammoth operation continues at the current speed.
Department of Health bosses today claimed 137,897 people across Britain were given the approved Pfizer/BioNTech jab during the first eight days of the UK s biggest-ever vaccination drive.
At that rate roughly 17,237 vaccinations per day it would take around 3,481 days to give all 30million people on Downing Street s priority list their two doses.
Vaccinations are being done faster this week now GP practices are involved and will continue to speed up in the coming weeks with more venues starting up, more staff hired and more vaccine doses available.
SWANAGE Medical Practice will play its part in delivering the coronavirus vaccine. In a statement posted on the surgery s facebook page, senior partner Dr Jason Clark told patients the practice had signed-up to be part of the team delivering the vaccine on a strictly prioritised basis according to national protocol. He also said that as soon as the practice gets dates of availability, appropriate individuals will be contacted to book appointments. Wareham Hospital had been chosen by The Primary Care Network as a local site for large scale vaccinations. Dr Clark said: The group to be vaccinated is a much larger one than usually get the flu vaccination.

THE first patients in Pickering have received the Covid-19 vaccine. Pickering Medical Practice will be acting as a primary care hub and will be vaccinating eligible patients from its own practice and those registered at Kirkbymoorside, Helmsley and Terrington practices. Kirstie Vincer, nurse manager at Pickering Medical Practice, said: Everyone is fantastically excited to be able to begin vaccinating. It s taken an effort like none of us have ever experienced and it s only been possible because of the collective energy of colleagues within our Primary Care Network and an army of volunteers. “We are all set up and ready to vaccinate people efficiently and safely. It’s incredibly exciting knowing that we will be one of the first GP practices to provide the vaccine.
