Improvement in port connectivity
In order to overcome these challenges, many initiatives have been taken over a period of last few years. Some of the recent initiatives taken by the government are as follows:
New legislation viz. Major Ports Authority (MPA) Bill, 2020 have been formulated after extensive deliberations and discussions with the stakeholders. The MPA Bill, 2020 has been passed by the Lok Sabha and would be introduced in Rajya Sabha in the next session. It will usher in a new era for the administration of Major Ports in India in which the Major Ports will have much greater autonomy and contribute significantly to the economic growth and provide world-class port infrastructure by adopting the Landlord Model of development
Nabard Chairman Dr GR Chintala visited NCDC headquarters last week and met its Managing Director Sundeep Nayak. The aim of the meeting was to boost the formation of Farmers Producer Organization (FPO) across states. Briefing about the content of the meeting, NCDC Managing Director said to Indian Cooperative that NCDC and Nabard are going to help form thousands of FPOs across India. We aim to set up 8000 FPOs, Nayak added.
There will be a Credit Guarantee Fund of up to Rs 1,000 crore in NABARD with equal contribution by DAC&FW and NABARD and Credit Guarantee Fund of Rs.500 crore in NCDC with equal contribution by DAC&FW and NCDC for providing suitable credit guarantee cover to accelerate flow of institutional credit to FPOs by minimising the risk of financial institutions for granting loan to FPOs.

Visit of External Affairs Minister of India to Qatar (December 27-28, 2020)
External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar paid a two day stand-alone visit to Qatar from 27-28 December 2020. During the visit he called on His Highnesses The Amir and Father Amir as well as the Prime Minister and Interior Minister of the State of Qatar and held detailed discussions with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.
Dr. S. Jaishankar handed over a personal message from Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to H.H. Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani inviting him to visit India and thanking Qatar for taking care of the Indian community during Covid-19. The Amir accepted the invitation to visit India at an early date. He also recalled his telephone conversation with Prime Minister during which both leaders had decided to set up Task Forces on investment and energy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch Ayushman Bharat scheme via video conferencing to extend health insurance coverage to all residents of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. The scheme will ensure Universal Health Coverage and focus on providing financial risk protection and ensuring quality and affordable essential health services to all individuals and communities, the prime minister s office said in a statement.
