New covid19 rules: no concerts; only 25% capacity at places of worship

FROM midnight, there can be no public gatherings for entertainment or concerts; only ten people can attend weddings and funerals; public servants will revert to a rotation system for working from their offices; and places of worship are to operate at a 25 per cent capacity.
Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh made these announcements at the Health Ministry s virtual press conference on Wednesday morning, in light of a large increase in covid19 cases.
Deyalsingh said the decision was made at a meeting on Wednesday morning with the Prime Minister, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Stuart Young, chief medical officer Dr Roshan Parasram, National Security Minister Fitzgerald Hinds and Thoracic Medical Director at the Caura Hospital Dr Michelle Trotman.
Rowley chairs emergency Caricom meeting

The Prime Minister,who is chairman of Caricom, and who has covid19, chaired a special emergency meeting of Caricom heads of government on Thursday.
A post on Dr Rowley’s Facebook page said the meeting focused on the mobilisation of relief supplies from all of Caricom for the people of St Vincent and the Grenadines, who are experiencing the effects of the eruptions of the La Soufriere volcano.

A virtual meeting on Tuesday between the Prime Minister and China President Xi Jinping set the stage for Trinidad and Tobago to receive covid19 vaccines from China, amid uncertainties over other sources of vaccines.
A statement by the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) said Dr Rowley received a call from Xi via teleconference at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann s. The office said their discussions centred on several matters of mutual interest.

Tragically in the news this week has been the grievance referred to the Industrial Court regarding the retrenchment of 15 workers from Yara Trinidad’s plant, which had closed in 2019. It is especially tragic as it comes on the heels of claims of some alleged 30,000 associated contract, transport and entrepreneurial employees in the energy sector, in and around the Point Lisas Industrial Estate, potentially losing their jobs due to non-availability of gas, which is essential to downstream industrial production.
