Shafqat examines progress on TVET reforms

Islamabad : Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood on Wednesday visited the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) headquarters and discussed with NAVTTC chairman Syed Javed Hassan the progress on the revamping of the technical and vocational education and training (TEVT) sector in the country.
He appreciated the efforts of the NAVTTC in implementing the fourteen areas of intervention under the Prime Minister’s Hunarmand Programme and particularly lauded the initiatives of establishing 104 Job Placement and Vocational Counseling Centres (JP&VCCs), launch of the National Employment Exchange Tool (NEXT) and training of 37,000 youth in hi-tech and conventional trades.

LAHORE: Federal Minister Education & Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood has said that all exam boards across the country will conduct Matric and intermediate exams as per schedule.
Talking to the media at a books launching ceremony here on Saturday, the minister said provinces and federating units were allowed to issue their respective schedule for summer vacation keeping in view prevailing weather conditions. He advised the students to continue preparing for the exams as the same would neither be postponed nor cancelled this time.
Shafqat Mahmood said last year students were promoted to next grades without exams but this time there was consensus among all provinces and federating units that exams would be held as per schedule. He said there were 29 examination boards across the country and each board had issued date sheet for exams which would be held as per the schedule. LAHORE: Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood said on Saturday that education had already suffered a lot as exams would not be canceled and students should focus on their studies. Speaking to mediapersons, he said that last year there was a lot of trouble in education, schools remained closed for a long time and many shortcomings had to be filled in.
“Let me make it clear that this year nobody will be promoted without exams,” he said. The minister said that the Punjab government would look into the matter of fees but examinations would not be postponed. He said the decision to reopen schools is up to the provinces, all the children passed last year but the provincial ministers decided that examinations must be conducted, he added.
