Experts believe it is possible every Australian adult could be vaccinated this year after securing 25 million doses from Moderna.
According to a leading infectious diseases physician the vaccine program could be completed by December.
Professor Greg Dore says the deal allows Australia to be less dependent on other vaccines as Moderna will provide 15 million booster shots in the next year.
Last week the American pharmaceutical company released data suggesting its shot can be adjusted to provide defence against the variants from Brazil and South Africa.
