Article by Social Share Kingstown – The lead scientist monitoring the La Soufrière volcano, Professor Richard Robertson, Monday described as “dotish” and not an act of bravery, the decision by a man to climb the erupting volcano on Sunday. “It is absolutely foolish . . . it is absolutely dotish to do that. People talk about bravery  and to me somebody is brave when you are aware of the risks that you put yourself through because of some positive job or they need to contribute to society in a fundamental way and you still take the action to save your family or something like that,” Robertson told listeners to the state-owned NBC Radio.

CEO: Operations at Argyle International Airport suspended until Monday

Article by Social Share Kingstown – The Argyle international Airport (AIA) is scheduled to be reopened on Monday even as the scientists monitoring the La Soufrière volcano said that explosions with accompanying ashfall, of similar or larger magnitude, could restart in the future, which could affect St Vincent and neighbouring Caribbean islands. The airport was forced to close because of ash generated from the April 9 eruption of the volcano and the chief executive officer, Corsel Robertson, said that due to significant ash deposits, all operations at the Argyle International Airport, have been suspended, until 4 p.m. on Monday. “The facility is undergoing rigorous cleanup of runways and apron to accommodate humanitarian flights as a priority,” Robertson said and the civil aviation authorities here said that the James Mitchell Airport, on the grenadine island of Bequia, will remain closed until April 19.

Details on the current situation were shared, along with updates on ongoing monitoring and how persons across the region and beyond can join the relief efforts to support Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
