In its determination to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) within a set timeline through its various service platforms, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has launched its flagship initiative, the Groups, Individuals and Family Social Health Insurance Programme (GIFSHIP) in Auchi, Edo State.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday signed by the Head of Media and Public Relation, Emmanuel Ononokpono.
The programme which was launched nationally in Abuja by the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire in November last year, has become the Scheme’s main vehicle of enrollment especially in the non-formal sector of the economy.

The Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Prof Mohammed Nasir Sambo, has disclosed that the scheme will in a short time launch its electronic platform otherwise known as E-NHIS.
Sambo disclosed this during the NHIS-Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) Standing Committee meeting in Abuja.
He noted that the NHIS electronic platform will revolutionise the health insurance system in the country.
Sambo stated that the E-NHIS platform will enable the transactions of registration, enrollment and change of facilities amongst other business processes on electronic devices, adding that these actions will be viewed in real-time on the Scheme’s tracking monitor.

In a concerted effort towards achieving the Universal Health Coverage, the Federal and state governments, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and other stakeholders in the health sector, on Tuesday, meet to validate a policy document on Health Insurance Under One Roof (HIUOR).
The policy document, with clear monitoring and evaluation framework, is developed and produced with technical assistance from the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Speaking at the validation meeting held in Abuja, the Executive Secretary of NHIS, Prof Mohammed Nasir Sambo, described the document validation as yet another milestone in the on-going reforms in the NHIS and the health insurance ecosystem in Nigeria “to fast track our collective quest to attain Universal Health Coverage.”
