Battle for Tobago: PNM ahead of PDP in THA election Sunday 24 January 2021 Jabali Entertainers drummers sound the battle cry for PNM during a meeting at Cyd Grad Sporting Complext, Roxborough on Thursday. PHOTO BY JEFF MAYERS - After weeks of hectic campaigning, tomorrow’s eagerly anticipated Tobago House of Assembly (THA) election will again be a fight between the ruling People’s National Movement (PNM) and the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP). This is the view of political analyst Dr Bishnu Ragoonath, senior lecturer, Department of Political Science, UWI, St Augustine. When the House was dissolved on November 17, 2020, the PNM controlled ten of the 12 seats in the THA. The party has led the THA for the past two decades.

PHOTO BY JEFF K MAYERS - Covid19 guidelines seem to have taken a back seat as the excitement builds towards the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) election on Monday. Supporters of the People s National Movement (PNM) and Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) have been guilty of gathering in large numbers, wearing masks improperly and not staying six feet apart. And though police and members of the parties executives have been encouraging adherence to covid19 guidelines during meetings, they seemed near impossible to follow amid the election frenzy.

In a release on Friday, the PDP said the PNM Tobago Council has called for reinforcements and placed the ailing Prime Minister on the campaign trail to instil fear in Tobagonians. Dr Rowley, who recently had surgery at West Shore Private Medical Hospital to clear blocked arteries, spoke on Wednesday and Thursday on PNM platforms in Roxborough and Mt Pleasant.
