Are you ready for PDAC? The annual convention runs this year from March 8 to 11, and it’s going entirely online for the first time ever.
The COVID-19 pandemic made 2020 a challenging year in many respects. It was no different for the resource industry, with mining companies quickly adapting to new circumstances.
2021 is now in full swing, and one major development is that the annual Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) convention will go entirely online for the first time ever.
Held every year in Toronto since 1932, this year’s convention will run from March 8 to 11 and will offer more than 100 hours of unique content across five concurrent sessions.
The View from England: March is a good time to consider risk and reward

It seems odd not being in Toronto during the first full week of March. For as long as I can remember, the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) convention has started on the first Sunday in March. This year, however, not only is the first Sunday on the 7th (which is the latest it has been for 11 years) but the coronavirus leaves us with a Monday start. At least the mining industry’s largest convention is going ahead, albeit in a virtual world.
Resource Estimate and PEA
The most recent PEA and Mineral Resource Estimate are included in a technical report titled, Revised Independent Technical Report, Mineral Resource Estimate Update and Preliminary Economic Assessment for Expansion of the Kainantu Mine to Treat 1 Mtpa from the Kora Gold Deposit, Kainantu Project, Papua New Guinea, with an effective date of April 2, 2020.
The PEA is preliminary in nature and includes inferred mineral resources that are considered too speculative geologically to have the economic considerations applied to them that would enable them to be categorized as mineral reserves, and there is no certainty that the PEA will be realized. The Technical Report contains a full description of all underlying assumptions relating to the PEA. Mineral Resources that are not Mineral Reserves do not have demonstrated economic viability.
