Concerned about his wife having to fetch water daily from a hand-pump half-a-km away from their home in Madhya Pradesh s Guna, a poor labourer has dug a well in his own house in just a fortnight.
BHUBANESWAR/CUTTACK: Mahanga police in Cuttack district on Sunday registered case against 13 persons, including state law minister Pratap Jena for their alleged involvement behind the double murder of BJP leader Kulamani Baral (75) and his relative Dibyasingha Baral (80) on Saturday evening.
The case was registered against Jena and 12 others on the basis of a written complaint of Kulamani’s son Ramakanta on Sunday. Ramakanta alleged Jena, who is the local MLA, masterminded the twin murders as the deceased had been raising his voice against alleged corrupt practices in his constituency.
The accused have been booked under sections 302 (murder), 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 120-B (punishment of criminal conspiracy), 506 (criminal intimidation), 25 and 27 of Arms Act.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed the rural development ministry and state governments to take prompt action against any irregularities by officials, panchayat office bearers and pradhans involved in the implementation of PM Awas Yojna (PMAY) scheme in rural areas.
The directions were issued at the Pragati meeting chaired by thePM last month where matters relating to the scheme came up for review. According to the minutes of the meeting, the rural development ministry and states have been asked to analyse, categorise grievances and develop a mechanism for their faster and permanent resolution. Sources said the PM had asked the rural development ministry to see how people’s grievances were addressed comprehensively rather than focussing on the number of complaints.
