Agencies As many as 1.85 crore people have been given work in May so far, which is 52 per cent higher compared to 1.22 crore in 2019 in the same period, the Rural Development Ministry said. Despite the second coronavirus wave entering rural areas and lockdown in several states, the demand for work under rural employment scheme MGNREGA is on the rise, according to the data released by Rural Development Ministry on Monday.

J-K: PMGSY brings smile to people in Rajouri s Kalakote with connectivity, employment ANI | Updated: May 10, 2021 07:57 IST Rajouri (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], May 10 (ANI): The Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) has brought a smile to people living in the remotest hilly areas in the Kalakote subdivision in Rajouri with road connectivity and employment opportunity. The 15 km PMGSY road stretches from Mathiani to Odhan connecting over 12 villages in this region. People are getting employment. There was no connectivity. Patients used to die before reaching the hospital. Now, vehicles are coming to the doorstep. Due to lockdown and COVID pandemic, people cannot go for work to other places. Not just the locals, but people from Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh also came here for work, Parvinder Singh, a local working as a labourer in the project told ANI.

The construction of the road passing through the Drangbal village was being demanded by the residents for better connectivity, Abid Salam, a local resident told ANI. Salam lauded the efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir administration and the district administration for fulfilling the demand of the residents.
