A Plum man is suing the school district and its solicitor, alleging they conspired against him when he objected to virtual schooling during the covid-19 pandemic.
Nathan O’Leath said in a federal lawsuit filed Friday that he and his wife, Nicole O’Leath, have two children, ages 7 and 10. They said they had to move the children to a private school.
The suit names Plum Borough School District, as well as Bruce E. Dice & Associates and Dayne E. Dice, an attorney there, as defendants.
Which Pa. schools had the largest number of arrests in 2019-20?
Updated Feb 15, 2021;
The Pennsylvania Department of Education’s annual Safe Schools report for the 2019-20 school year showed a noticeable drop in reported arrests.
Districts are required to submit their misconduct reports, both criminal and academic infractions, to the state every year. Reporting sometimes changes from year-to-year, but no changes were made last school year.
Last year, the top three criminal reasons why students were in trouble statewide were:
Possession, use, or sale of tobacco or vaping 8.34 percent
Fighting 8.14 percent
Minor altercation 5.42 percent
Here’s a list of the schools that had the largest number of arrests, and the crime that was most common at each school.
Plum School District will be closed Thursday due to Wednesday’s heavy snowfall.
A message from Superintendent Brendan Hyland about the snow day was posted on the district’s twitter page and newsfeed. The closure was in large part a result of Wednesday’s snow storms.
“Students are directed to close their Chromebooks, go out in the snow, preferably with family, and have a lot of fun,” Hyland’s message read. “We all know that it is very important to feed the mind, but it is just as important to feed the heart and soul. It has been a tough year for our families, and you deserve to have some fun.”
