HAVANA, July 4 (Xinhua) Fernando Gelavert, who drives an electric street sweeper in Cuba, has got prepared to clear streets and squares of debris as the tropical storm Elsa is nearing the country.
The 63-year-old used to remove plastic materials, leaves, and solid waste from the pavement and sidewalks in the capital Havana with a broom and a dustpan, but his daily routine was changed one year ago thanks to a Chinese donation including street cleaning equipment and garbage trucks. The Chinese machines and trucks will contribute a lot to keeping Havana clean once the storm batters this city. Waste collectors play a key role nowadays, he told Xinhua recently.

Havana, May 19 (Prensa Latina) Cuba has vaccinated 540,002 people with Covid-19 vaccine candidates Abdala and Soberana 02 until Wednesday, in the vaccination intervention of risk territories and groups.
According to the last count of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), 239,626 people aged 19 and over received the Abdala shot, devised by the Center of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB).
Those figures make up 53.7 percent of the group of 396,382 individuals planned to be immunized in the municipalities of Regla, Guanabacoa, Habana del Este and San Miguel del Padron, where the vaccination intervention began on May 12.
