Blennerhassett DAR wins state, national awards | News, Sports, Jobs

PARKERSBURG Two members of the Blennerhassett Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution posted wins in the American Heritage Committee annual contest open to all members. With the theme of “Rise and Shine Your Light on Your Revolutionary War Patriot,” Blennerhassett Chapter members Cathy Hinkle placed 1st nationally in the in the unenhanced color photo category and Roberta Gellner placed 2nd in the West Virginia-only contest in Machine Quilted Quilts. Hinkle’s photograph showed a candle reflecting light through a pair of old eyeglasses sitting on her family’s opened bible with her Revolutionary War patriot and his family’s names showing.

Kenneth Gilbert Kenneth Gilbert, 78, of Parkersburg, WV died Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Belpre Landing. He was born in Spencer, WV a son of the late Delmer and Marie (Jones) Gilbert. Kenneth Gilbert was an active artist as well as an art educator in the Parkersburg Area. He taught on the elementary, junior high, senior high and college levels. He also served as the art coordinator for the Wood County School System. Approximately 200 of his former students are professional artist and work all over America. Other professional achievements include founding and directing the Mountain Trace Folklore Program at Parkersburg High School where he and his students produced three hardbound books, two on West Virginia Heritage and Culture and the other a History of Parkersburg High School.
