KALISPELL â Extreme heat and dry conditions have fire safety officials nervous about the use of fireworks this 4th of July weekend.
âI imagine in the next week or two we will be kind of running and gunning,â Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) Fire Prevention Specialist Ernie Nace told MTN News.
âThis weekendâs got a lot of potential. I mean weâre going from not getting the moisture to just how hot itâs been this week, you know weâre breaking records everywhere,â said Nace.

Robertson Draw Fire and Crooked Creek Fire
Fire crews continue to patrol the containment lines on the Robertson Draw and Crooked Creek Fires burning in the Custer Gallatin National Forest in south central Montana.
Containment holds steady at 65% on the 30,000-acre Robertson Draw fire just south of Red Lodge. Fire crews are patrolling the eastern and southern perimeters of the fire looking for hot spots or pockets of heat. Mop-up operations continue to secure these lines, and suppression repair efforts are ongoing.
The 4,000-acre Crooked Creek fire east of Bridger in the Pryor Mountains continues at 72% containment. InciWeb says fire crews are patrolling the fire lines mopping up hot spots or pockets of heat.

MISSOULA â Tuesdayâs record high for the day of 101 degrees in Missoula was threatened again on Wednesday with a forecast of 103 degrees â part of the record heat that has turned the dial to broil across the Pacific Northwest.
The heat has sent many Missoulians in search of cool rivers and lakes while Missoula County plans to cancel its mobile COVID-19 vaccination clinic until the heatwave passes.
The City of Missoulaâs fireworks ban also remains in effect, though Missoula County on Wednesday said it lacks the same self-governing powers to enact a similar ban. Instead, itâs urging common sense and caution as the fire danger moves to high and beyond.
