Gianforte Signs Bill Pushing Back on Fed Gun Control
The much anticipated House Bill 258 pushing back on any new federal gun bans or gun control laws has officially been signed into law. Montana Governor Greg Gianforte (R-MT) signed the measure Friday morning, and is already getting national attention.
HB 258, sponsored by Rep. Jedediah Hinkle (R-Belgrade) is the bill that would basically authorize the State of Montana, and law enforcement officers in the state, to ignore any new gun control laws on the books.
Gary Marbut with the Montana Shootings Sports Assocation hailed the passage of HB 258, noting that it has an immediate effective date so it is now law in Montana.

Montana: Governor Signs Second Amendment State Sanctuary & Constitutional Carry Bills
Montana – -(AmmoLand.com)- Now that Governor Gianforte has signed the full Constitutional Carry bill (HB 102) and Second Amendment Sanctuary bill (HB 258), that makes, by my count, 70 pro-gun bills that Montana Shooting Sports Association (MSSA) has gotten through the Montana Legislature and enacted into law. This does not include bills vetoed by various governors or that otherwise failed in the process.
You can review a partial list of MSSA’s successes at: www.mtssa.org/?page id=2 I really need to update this list and bring it current. I promise I will as soon as I find that missing “round toit.”

Signed as Law: Montana Prohibits State Enforcement of Any New Federal Gun Control
HELENA, Mont. (April 23, 2021) – Today, Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte signed a bill into law banning enforcement of any new federal gun control. This represents a major step toward bringing such federal acts to an end within the state.
Rep. Jedediah Hinkle (R-Belgrade) introduced House Bill 258 (HB258) on Jan. 27. The new law prohibits police officers, state employees, and employees of any political subdivision of the state from enforcing, assisting in the enforcement of, or otherwise cooperating in the enforcement of any new “federal ban” on firearms, magazines, or ammunition.
Montana University System seeking input in implementing campus carry

BOZEMAN (AP) In an era marred by gun violence, the Montana University System is looking to neighboring states and public input as it prepares to allow concealed carry of firearms on campus.
The new firearm carry law, signed by Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte on Feb. 18, will go into effect on Montana’s campuses June 1, leaving the Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education with a narrow window to collect public input, draft a policy and present its findings to the Board of Regents during next month’s meeting.
“It’s an ongoing process here,” said Brock Tessman, deputy commissioner for academic, research and student affairs. “Every day we inch a little bit closer to a policy.”
