Police say Billings suspect drove vehicle at officers before he was shot and last updated 2020-12-10 11:19:33-05 BILLINGS — Police said Wednesday a man drove a vehicle at officers before he was shot. Lt. Brandon Wooley of the Billings Police Department said in a news release that the shooting on Tuesday at about 3 p.m. in the 600 block of Clause Circle happened as officers with the Montana Violent Offender Task Force attempted to arrest 36-year-old Richard Martinez on warrants. When Martinez drove at the officers, one of them fired at Martinez, Wooley said. Martinez was taken by ambulance to a Billings medical facility where he was treated for a gunshot wound and released. He is currently being held at the Yellowstone County jail on outstanding warrants and a possible new felony charge of assault on a peace officer, Wooley said.
