Mumbai: In a significant move, the Maharashtra government on Monday informed the Bombay High Court that it will treat all patients suffering from mucormycosis or black fungus at designated hospitals free of cost besides planning to cap the treatment rates in private hospitals.
The treatment will be given at pre-identified hospitals and nursing homes in the state under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana and the Pradhan Mantra Jan Arogya Yojana.
The government also informed a division bench at the Aurangabad Bench, comprising Justice R.V. Ghuge and Justice B.U. Debadwar that a GR to this effect has been issued on May 18.

Pune (Maharashtra) [India], May 21 (ANI): Concerned over the shortage of injections to treat black fungus in patients, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Friday said that there are more than 300 cases of mucormycosis in Pune.
Speaking to media persons, the minister said, Presently there are over 300 cases of black fungus in Pune, including many outsiders (residents of other districts). There is a shortage of injections for them.
According to the Deputy Chief Minister, one person infected with black fungus requires as many as six injections in a single day.
The state’s total caseload rose to 54.3 lakh
MUMBAI: Delayed reporting of Covid deaths by hospitals has led to a sudden surge in the state’s cumulative toll, with 2,291 deaths added in the last 48 hours alone.
Of the total, 1,096 deaths that occurred more than a week ago, as part of a data reconciliation exercise, were added to the total toll in the last two days. The remaining 1,195 deaths occurred on Monday (516) and Tuesday (679) and were reported as part of the daily Covid bulletin sent by the state. The cumulative toll on Tuesday rose to 83,777 from 81,486 on Sunday. The state has also not given bifurcation of districts from where these deaths have been added.

Patients of Mucormycosis, a serious but rare fungal infection now affecting those suffering from coronavirus, will be treated for free under the Maharashtra governments flagship medical insurance scheme, Health Minister Rajesh Tope said on Monday.
