BMC to set up a desalination plant to overcome Mumbai s water woes

As per the press release, the standing committee gave an in-principle approval towards payment of charges worth Rs 5.50 crore for preparing a detailed project report and Rs 40 lakh for bid documents.
The release further stated that a four-member panel chaired by the municipal commissioner will be set up for the implementation of the project. The desalination plant, with a capacity of 200 MLD water per day, will require a capital investment of Rs 1,600 crore and Rs 1,920 crore in operational costs for the next 20 years, informed the BMC.
