Mumbai: Nana Patole has been appointed as the President of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee. Patole had resigned from the post of the Assembly Speaker on Thursday and said that the party high command had asked him to do so. The high command of the party asked me to resign from the post. I obeyed them, Patole said.
The Sakoli MLA had quit the BJP to join the Congress party in 2017. He was made the Speaker of Maharashtra s Legislative Assembly after the Maha Vikas Aghadi came to power in 2019 after the Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance failed to form a government due to disagreement over the Chief Minister post.

Mumbai, Feb 4 : Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Nana F. Patole resigned from his post here on Thursday. He submitted his resignation to Deputy Speaker Narhari S. Zhirwal, after a tenure of nearly 14 months in the august post.
The development comes ahead of 58-year-old Patole s likely appointment as the new President of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee, according to party sources.
