The statements made by both sides in the dispute have not yet been tested in a court of law.
While Bernier went on to lose his seat in the Quebec riding of Beauce in the 2019 election, Singh won the British Columbia riding of Burnaby South.
Bernier s lawyer Andre Marin declined to comment when reached by CBC News.
The documents filed recently in court are the latest twist in a tale that began in October 2019 when a source told media outlets about Project Cactus.
At the time, a source told CBC News that the campaign was funded by the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) something that then-Conservative leader Andrew Scheer refused to confirm or deny.

Thousands Protest COVID Restrictions in Montreal
Thousands of people took to the streets in Montreal on Saturday, May 1, to denounce COVID-19 restrictions in Quebec.

Demonstrators, calling the restrictions excessive and unjustified, gathered at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium, and demanded that the provincial government lift a nighttime curfew that has been in place in much of the province since January, as well as mask mandates.
Former MP and People’s Party of Canada Leader Maxime Bernier, a vocal opponent of lockdown measures, also joined the protest in Montreal.

So the standoff is on. The showdown is set for high noon at Confederation Park.
“I think because of the mayor’s tweets there could be thousands at this rally,” said Hillier, who has been attending similar events across the province.
Freedom of protest has always been the hallmark of Canada’s democracy but those who attend protests during lockdown orders have been receiving fines from police who are enforcing such laws. The Peterborough mayor used her free speech to express her opinion on the protest set for her city and has received support from other elected officials in the region.

Earlier this week, reports surfaced that People’s Party of Canada Leader Maxime Bernier would be joining independent Ontario MPP Randy Hillier in an anti-lockdown protest at Peterborough City Hall this weekend.
Peterborough Mayor Diane Therrien took to Twitter last night saying ‘Hey Randy Hillier and Maxime Bernier, I know you boys are bored but’ before sharing a selfie with a text bubble saying ‘stay tf home’.
Bernier responded this morning on Twitter, saying ‘Dear Madam Mayor of Peterborough, Canada is my home.’ with the hashtag #NoMoreLockdowns.
Protests at City Hall have grown each Saturday in recent weeks locally, while Peterborough Police have pressed charges to some attending the rallies.
