The police have sounded a high alert in the State in the wake of the Maoists’ encounter with security personnel on the Bijapur-Sukma district borders in Chhattisgarh on Saturday. Security has been beefed up along the inter-State borders and combing operations have been been intensified.
Though the exact number of people died in the encounter is yet to be ascertained, the officials confirmed that 22 personnel of the CRPF, Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (COBRA) and the District Reserve Guard (DRG) were killed and 30 jawans were injured. Several jawans have were reportedly gone missing after the encounter and a few Naxals were also killed in the operation.

New Delhi: As many as 22 security forces personnel were killed and 30 others injured on Saturday in an encounter with armed Maoists in a forest along the border between Bijapur and Sukma districts in Chhattisgarh, police officials said.
Indian Express has reported the Bijapur Superintendent of Police as having confirmed that 17 bodies were recovered on the morning on April 4, which added to toll of five who were announced to have been killed a day before.
The number of security personnel killed in the encounter has gone up to 22, police said. Eighteen jawans were missing after five security personnel were killed and 30 others injured on Saturday in the fierce gun-battle with Naxals in a forest along the border between Bijapur and Sukma districts in Chhattisgarh, police earlier said. On Sunday, bodies of 17 missing personnel were recovered during a search operation. With this, total 22 personnel have been killed in the gunfight, a senior police official said. The bodies of three jawans who were reported killed on Saturday were also recovered, he said, adding that the search operation was still on in the forest.
