Jose Angel Guerrero Ortiz, 47, of Tuscaloosa, died in the Sunday morning wreck on McFarland Boulevard at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
The trooper’s 2017 Ford Explorer stuck a 1995 Jeep Cherokee being driven by Ortiz around 9:35 a.m. Sunday.
Ortiz was pronounced dead at the scene, while the trooper was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center.
Three other vehicles were involved after the initial collision, authorities said, but ALEA did not provide more information.

TUSCALOOSA, AL One person was killed and an Alabama state trooper injured in a multi-vehicle wreck Sunday morning at the intersection of McFarland Boulevard and Veterans Memorial Parkway.
The Tuscaloosa Police Department said the on-duty officer s injuries were minor and confirmed the one fatality. The identity of the person killed and further details about the crash have not been released at this time.
TPD says the crash happened at 9:35 a.m., resulting in McFarland Boulevard being blocked off to all traffic by police well into the afternoon hours as TPD s Accident Reconstruction Unit is processing the scene.

TUSCALOOSA The intersection of McFarland Boulevard and 15th Street in Tuscaloosa has been closed after a Sunday morning crash killed one person, according to police. The collision occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m.

The crash involved five vehicles including an Alabama State Trooper. The trooper is reportedly okay. The name of the deceased person has not been released.
According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, it is not known how long the intersection will be closed as the accident reconstruction team investigates the crash.

A five-car crash in Tuscaloosa on Sunday morning left one person dead and injured an off-duty Alabama State Trooper, Tuscaloosa police said.
The accident happened at the intersection of McFarland Boulevard and Veterans Memorial Parkway at about 9:35 a.m.
A state trooper was one of the drivers involved and is being treated for a minor injury, police said.
Tuscaloosa’s Accident Reconstruction Unit was on the scene Sunday afternoon and police asked travelers to avoid the area.
