Sandy Creek art teacher accused of raping former student

Martin Scoville, 46, of Lacona, was charged Monday with first-degree rape, a felony.
Scoville is accused of forcibly raping the victim in the late winter or early spring of 2009. The victim was Scoville’s student at the time of the rape, sheriff’s Lt. Andrew J. Bucher said in a news release.
When Sandy Creek school officials learned that one of Scoville’s former students claimed to have had an inappropriate relationship with Scoville from around 2005 until 2009, staff members contacted the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office, Bucher said. The sheriff’s office did not say when members of the school district alerted police, but Bucher said that’s what prompted the investigation.
