The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) called on Thursday, April 29, its previous scholars, Filipino scientists, and those experts in the fields of microbiology, molecular biology and biochemistry to be part of the Virology Science and Technology Institute of the Philippines or VIP.

DOST Undersecretary for Research and Development Rowena Cristina L. Guevara made the call during the “VISION 2021: Virology Science and Technology Institute of the Philippines, Information, Opportunities and Networking” webinar initiated by the DOST’s National Research Council of the Philippines (NCRP).

Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Undersecretary Rowena Cristina Guevara, who leads the TG-VES, said more vaccine manufacturers were expected to file their EUA application before the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
“Two or three more,” she told the Manila Bulletin in a Viber message when asked on the number of vaccine developers that will apply for EUA of their COVID-19 vaccines.
She said while, they were expecting more applicants, “we might not have any EUA approvals this month.”
Guevara noted that it takes longer than one week for the FDA to process EUA applications.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the local government units (LGUs) have so far provided relief assistance amounting to more than P1.72 million to the families affected by Typhoon “Bising” in the country’s four regions.
The DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) reported that as of 6 p.m., April 23, the relief response aid disbursed to the affected families totals P1,723,751.20.
The DROMIC noted the increasing number of families affected by Bising in Cagayan Valley, Bicol, Eastern Visayas and Caraga.
Based on its report, Bising had affected 85,570 families or 344,958 persons in 1,099 barangays.

Aside from restricting the number of Manila-bound passenger arrivals from international flights to 1,500 a day for all airlines tomorrow (March 18), the government temporarily suspended the entry of Foreign Nationals and Returning Overseas Filipinos who are non-OFWs beginning 12:01AM this Saturday, March 20, up to April 19, 2021.
Those who are allowed to travel to the Philippines within the 30-day period include Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), holders of 9(e) visas (Diplomatic visa), passengers on medical repatriation and their escorts duly endorsed by the Department of Foreign Affairs – Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers Affairs or the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
