Man gets 29-year sentence in rape case, files motion for new trial Troy Alan March
A Gainesville man was sentenced to 29 years behind bars in a rape trial but was acquitted of other sex offenses, according to court documents.
Troy Alan March, 36, was found guilty by a Hall County jury on a charge of rape but was acquitted on one charge of attempted aggravated sodomy and three counts of child molestation.
The sentence handed down by Superior Court Judge Jason Deal was 29 years to serve in confinement and life on probation.
Information from Northeastern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Lee Darragh’s office stated the case began after law enforcement started investigating in early 2019.
Authorities investigating fatal wreck on 985
One man was killed Saturday, April 24, after his SUV left the northbound lanes of Interstate 985 and rolled several times, according to authorities.
The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatal single-vehicle wreck that happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday near mile marker 11, which is between the Friendship and Spout Springs roads’ exits.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth said the driver was ejected after the SUV rolled, adding there were no passengers in the vehicle.
The driver has not been identified, as authorities are still working to notify the next of kin.
The crash is still under investigation.

HALL COUNTY, Ga. Two men died early Saturday morning in a head-on collision in Hall County, according to the sheriff s office.
The Hall County Sheriff s Office said deputies and fire services personnel responded around 2 a.m. to a crash on U.S. 129/Athens Hwy. at Barrett Rd. They said the driver of each vehicle died on scene.
They were identified as 25-year-old Marcos Ezequiel Lopez of Gainesville and 42-year-old Toby Langley of Talmo. Both were said to be wearing their seatbelts, and neither had a passenger. According to the preliminary investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit, Lopez was southbound on Athens Highway in a Toyota Corolla. Lopez left his lane, and his car hit Langley’s northbound 2002 Ford Escape head-on, the sheriff s office said.

HALL COUNTY, Ga. The Hall County Sheriff s Office is investigating after a man was found dead inside a Hall County home on Wednesday afternoon.
Officers said they received a call around 10 a.m. from a person who located a man s body inside a home in the 4000 block of Talmo Road just off Candler Road on GA-60.
Police say they are treating the death as a possible homicide.
Further information about the investigation was not immediately available, and the cause of death has not been released yet.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a possible homicide at a residence southeast of Gainesville.
A man was found dead in the 4000 block of Talmo Road off of GA 60/Candler Road Wednesday morning.
“According to the preliminary investigation, there appears to have been a struggle,” says HCSO spokesperson Derreck Booth. “The deceased man shows signs of blunt force trauma.”
Authorities have not released any names.
Booth says sheriff’s investigators have developed “several viable leads” and are following up on them. Authorities say there are no indications of any danger to the community at this time.
