Special to the Weatherford Democrat Weatherford College recognized three alumni during the annual Alumni Awards Luncheon on Friday, April 16, at the Doss Heritage and Culture Center. Dan Carney and Jessica Cundiff were both recognized as Distinguished Alumni, and Sharon Hayes received the Alumnus of the Year award. Tiffany Hayes Christmas, Hayes’ daughter and a teacher at Hall Middle School, introduced her as an amazing woman and outstanding leader.

WISD mourning the loss of Hall Middle School student

Special to the Weatherford Democrat Feb 24, 2021 Feb 24, 2021 Weatherford ISD is mourning the loss of one of it s students, an eighth grader who passed away Tuesday night. A letter was sent out by Hall Principal Stephanie Wynne to notify families Tuesday night. It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I let you know we lost a member of our Hall Middle School family last night, according to the letter. Collin Sturgis, an eighth grade student, passed away after sustaining a serious injury at his home on Monday evening. This is an incredibly sad time for all of us, especially those who knew Collin as a friend and student. Collin was a popular, hardworking student who was involved in Hall athletics. He was both independent and fun loving.

Hall school board offers update on renovations, learning commons The Hall County Board of Education on Monday discussed progress on the renovations to area schools. The board approved purchases going toward Phase II of learning commons renovations, which is set to be completed this summer prior to preplanning, with Phase III set for summer 2022 and Phase IV in summer 2024.  The renovations aim to modernize and expand current media centers, with Phase II consisting of six schools: Chestatee High School, East Hall Middle School, Lula Elementary School, Martin Elementary School, Mt. Vernon Exploratory School and Sugar Hill Elementary School. Each learning commons includes a dedicated makers space for students to create. The spaces have different functionality depending on the school, with uses like storytime and independent reading areas, video and podcast production space and collaboration areas.
