The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Saturday ordered notice to Athi Narayanan of AMMK, who contested the assembly elections from Tirumangalam constituency, after the Madurai police sought the cancellation of the anticipatory bail granted to him.
Justice G. Chandrasekharan ordered notice to the AMMK candidate and sought a response in the case. The police sought the cancellation of the anticipatory bail that was granted after he had failed to abide by the undertaking he had given to the court.
Athi Narayanan apprehended arrest by the police after he passed certain remarks against the Revenue Minister R.B. Udayakumar. He gave an undertaking that he would not repeat it, following which he was granted anticipatory bail.

The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Saturday directed all the parties involved in the Avaniapuram custodial death case to file their counter affidavits.
The court had taken up the matter suo motu after it was alleged the father of the victim was coerced to withdraw his petition seeking a CBI probe into the incident that took place in 2019.
A Division Bench of Justices T. S. Sivagnanam and S. Ananthi sought the response from the State, the father of the victim and four men Athi Narayanan, Kathir, Loganathan and Ramesh alleged to be behind the withdrawal of the petition. Earlier, the father had informed the court that he was convinced that his son’s death was not a case of custodial death.
Plea to allow public for Chithirai festival dismissed

The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Friday dismissed a petition that sought to permit the general public to attend the Chithirai festival on the Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple premises, that will be celebrated from April 15 to April 26.
The court was hearing the public interest litigation petition that was filed by advocate G.D. Manikandan of Karaikudi in Sivaganga district. He challenged the government order that prohibited the public participation in the Chithirai festival this year.
A Division Bench of Justices T.S. Sivagnanam and S. Ananthi observed that the government had taken the decision by considering the welfare of the public, in view of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on Friday directed the Madurai Corporation to take effective steps to clear the garbage and also sensitise the public not to dump garbage into the Panthalkudi channel.
A Division Bench of Justices T.S. Sivagnanam and S. Ananthi also directed the Corporation to devise a plan to educate the people on segregation of garbage at source and discourage the use of plastic.
The court was hearing suo motu proceedings initiated in 2018 based on the news reports that complained of poor maintenance of the channel. The court had sought a periodical report on the progress made to clean the channel.
