Vadodara: A major fire broke out in a company dealing in pesticides at the Kalol GIDC in Panchmahal district on Tuesday. The unit was closed when the incident took place. However, there were no casualties due to the incident.
The massive fire took place in plot 78 of the GIDC. It later came to light that a company named Khodiyar Chemicals was operating from the place. Sources said that material used in manufacturing of pesticides was stored in the plot.
The smoke due to the fire was seen several kilometers away from the unit. Personnel of the Kalol police, fire brigade and Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Ltd had rushed to the spot.
Vadodara: Around seven years after it was envisaged, the Solar Dome on the Akota-Dandiabazaar road finally saw the light of the day formally on Thursday. The dome, touted to be the first of its kind project, is erected on a road within the city.
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) had envisaged the project in July 2014 soon after the Akota-Dandiabazaar road was inaugurated in February 2014. But work began on the project only a year later.
Besides a solar power generation unit, the dome was planned as a structure that would be an attraction on the road that has emerged as a place where many spend time or go for a drive. It is also popular amongst walkers, runners and cyclists.
NCLT directs power distribution firm not to take any coercive action against Sterling Biotech

Sterling Biotech’s liquidator had approached the Mumbai bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), with a plea to restrain Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (MGVCL) from cutting its connections since they are trying to sell the company as a going concerned.

The division bench preceded over by a judicial member Janab Mohammed Ajmal and a technical member V Nallasenapathy has directed the MGVCL to file its response in the case and has adjourned the case to June 10. The tribunal has also directed the power company, not to take any coercive action until that time.
A tree got uprooted in Kalol on Tuesday
VADODARA: While stormy conditions due to the cyclone Taukte did not lead to major damage or loss of lives in central Gujarat, several trees were uprooted and electricity polls fell on grounds or buildings. The roofs of some dwellings were also damaged.
Sources said that in Dahod district around 15 electricity polls fell due to strong winds. The Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Ltd started working on these. In the night, electricity supply was disrupted in some parts of the district.
In Panchmahal district too, trees and electricity polls fell at some locations. Tin roof of a house in Doctor Na Muvada village in Panchmahal district flew away due to heavy wind. Poles and trees fell in Halol, Kalol and other places in the district.
Vadodara: Government-owned Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Ltd (MGVCL) allegedly went back on its word and plunged an elderly couple into darkness by snapping their power connection on Tuesday evening.
Facing litigation in Vadodara District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, MGVCL’s lawyer had assured Saroj Agrawal, a resident of Akota, last month that until the next hearing on Wednesday their electricity will not be disconnected. Agrawal had filed a complaint in the consumer court on February 10 as MGVCL had sent her a notice in January stating that they have an outstanding electricity bill of over Rs 1.65 lakh from 2011.
In 2011, MGVCL had sent a bill of Rs 1.8 lakh with allegations of electricity theft. When Agrawal had taken up the issue with higher-ups of MGVCL, the dispute was settled when she paid Rs 30,460.
