Dakshina Kannada witnesses panic buying ahead of tougher weekend curfew News Network May 7, 2021 Mangaluru, May 7: People in Mangaluru and other parts of Dakshina Kannada early on Friday morning rushed to shops and supermarkets to buy essential commodities in the wake of district administration’s announcement to re-impose tougher weekend curfew.  Consumers had only three hours – 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. – for shopping. By 10.a.m all shopkeepers had to reach their homes as per new restrictions imposed by the administration.  Panic buying was witnessed across the city, and even in rural areas, as several people lined up outside grocery stores and vegetable markets.

India’s daily covid cases see biggest jump: 4.13 lakh more infections, nearly 3,980 deaths coastaldigest.com news network May 6, 2021 New Delhi, May 6: At least 3,980 more people died of Covid-19 over the last 24 hours in India while 4,12,262 more contracted the fatal infection, Union Health Ministry data on Thursday showed. India s Covid-19 death toll now stands over 2.30 lakh. With the fresh cases, the total tally of Covid-19 cases in the country climbed to 2,10,77,410. Registering a steady increase, the active cases have increased to 35,66,398 comprising 16.87 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate was recorded at 82.03 per cent, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The death toll rose to 2,18,959 with 3,417 fresh fatalities, according to data updated by the Union Health Ministry. The infection tally rose to 1,99,25,604, while the active cases crossed the 34-lakh mark, the data updated at 8 am showed. Registering a steady increase, the active cases stood at 34,13,642, accounting for 17.13 per cent of the total infections, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has further dropped to 81.77 per cent.

Oxygen shortage claims 3 lives in Kalaburagi hospital News Network May 2, 2021 Kalaburgi, May 2: Three COVID-19 patients in Khaja Banda Nawaz Hospital in Kalaburagi died on Saturday evening. It is learnt that the tragedy occurred when they were being shifted to other healthcare facility after the hospital ran out of oxygen.  As the news reached the district administrative headquarters, Deputy Commissioner Vijaya Jyothsna dispatched oxygen cylinders to the hospital. The deceased were on oxygen support. When the hospital staff found that the ICU would run out of oxygen, they began shifting the patients to other hospital in ambulance.
