Lupita Nyong’o has reacted to a statement by Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala claiming that she has been “inaccessible” for five years.
British supermodel Naomi Campbell was appointed the Magical Kenya International Tourism Ambassador by CS Najib Balala on January 12.
Naomi’s appointment stirred debate with opposers saying a Kenyan should have gotten the job.

“I know everybody is asking why not Lupita. Lupita has commitments and her managers cannot allow us to access her. We’ve spent the last five years looking for Lupita,” said CS Balala on Friday at Kenyatta University.

British model, Naomi Campbell, has been named as the Magical Kenya International Tourism Ambassador. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, after a meeting presided by the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Najib Balala.
Magical Kenya helps with exploration and discovery of the untold wealth of destinations and experiences available to visitors. On the Magical Kenya website, visitors are presented with diverse and niche product offers with endless opportunities for relaxation, culture, incentive, adventure, coast, sports safaris and community tourism.
The government also recently announced that the tourism sector will be among the first beneficiaries of the COVID-19 vaccines expected in the country in early February this year, promising a healthy recovery of the tourism sector. The government is turning to personalities to change the fortunes of the tourism industry hit hard by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The tourism industry, which was targeting to generate Sh189 billion in 2020/21 Sh22 billion more than what they collected in 2019, is among the worst-hit sector by the pandemic, losing Sh80 billion between February and June 2020.
The latest sign-up being British Super Model Naomi Campbell who on Tuesday agreed to be Magical Kenya International Tourism Ambassador. In her new role, she will help promote the marketing of Kenya as an ideal tourism and travel destination to the world.
