James Spann: Some rain at times tonight, Saturday morning

WET AT TIMES: A disturbance will bring some rain to Alabama over the next 48 hours. While a few sprinkles are possible today, most of the daytime will be dry. Clouds will increase with a high in the upper 60s. Rain is likely at times tonight and Saturday morning; the heaviest rain will come over southwest Alabama, where a Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for Mobile and Washington counties. A few strong storms are possible there as well.
But for the northern half of Alabama rain amounts will be light, generally less than a quarter of an inch. And for north and central Alabama most of the light rain will be over by noon Saturday. There will be some potential for rain late Saturday and Saturday night over the southern third of the state.

Cameron “CJ” Young has been looking forward to the Magic City Classic since playing in his first one in 2019. Back then, he was a bit player, an Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University (AAMU) freshman wide receiver who managed just one catch for six yards.
“This year, I’m going to be more vital,” he said. “I’m starting.”
The 79th McDonald’s Magic City Classic presented by Coca-Cola will be held on Saturday, April 17, at Birmingham’s Legion Field; kickoff is at 6:30 p.m.
The former standout from Daphne (Alabama) High School is looking forward to putting on a show for the fans, even though his favorite fan will be absent. His grandmother, 59-year-old Carolyn Denise Mitchell, contracted and succumbed to COVID-19 last August.

Wanda Dickens would admit to a bit of bias, but she thinks her late husband was the number-one fan of the Magic City Classic at least among those wearing Alabama State University’s (ASU’s) black and gold.
“He never missed a Classic that I’m aware of. He always supported it wholeheartedly,” she said of her husband, Reginald Dickens, who passed away on Nov. 24, 2020. “He took off a whole week every time they had a Classic.”
