They don’t (always) like the same things we do and they definitely don’t like fireworks, said Hans Wohlgefahrt, with Manatee County Animal Services. On the days following July 4, shelters say they are flooded with stray dogs that have run away because of fireworks. Which, Wohlgefahrt says is a big problem for already overcrowded shelters.

Manatee County Animal Services to host animal vaccine clinic on Sunday Sarasota Herald-Tribune MANATEE COUNTY   Manatee County Animal Services is hosting a free pet vaccination, microchip and licensing clinic for Manatee County pet owners on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 2811 51st St. W. (near Happy Tails/Laurie Crawford Dog Park) in Bradenton. The vaccines are for rabies and distemper. Space is limited and appointments are required by registering through mymanatee.org/petclinic. Dogs must be leashed and non-aggressive. Cats must be in a secure carrier and pet owners must provide a driver’s license or state ID.
