Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has dragged the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed to the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), accusing him of persistent wilful, mischievous and deceitful misinterpretation of sections of Nigeria’s criminal laws.
The association called on NBA to debar Lai Mohammed for allegedly bringing the prestigious profession into irreparable disrepute.
HURIWA categorically condemned the Minister of Information Lai for saying that kidnapping and banditry are not Federal offences.
The rights group further reminded the Minister that common sense should have told that crimes are offences fundamentally against the Nigerian Sovereign States since the parts are interdependent with the whole.
The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari and his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu of waging a Jihad against Christians.
HURIWA made the remark while berating Shehu for the attack on Father Ejike Mbaka, the spiritual leader of Adoration ministries, Enugu, who recently called for Buhari’s impeachment.
Mbaka called for the president’s impeachment over his failure to protect Nigerians from killers, armed bandits, terrorists and armed Fulani militia.
But, Shehu, in a statement, had accused Mbaka of asking Buhari for a contract and the president’s refusal led to such a call.

President Muhammadu Buhari has been asked to stop the attack being planned by Miyetti Allah Kauta Hore targeting South-east of Nigeria and arrest the chief mastermind of the terrorism plot, one Saleh Hassan who issued a media statement to that effect.
The call was made by Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) which urged all groups in the South-east of Nigeria and all over the country to reject violence and opt for harmonious relationships amongst all ethnicities and religious affiliations.
The Rights group also charged all relevant law enforcement agencies to protect Nigerian citizens wherever they choose to live and engage in legitimate businesses. “Herdsmen who are Nigerians must be protected and encouraged to embrace modern technology and practices of ranching their cattle and not engage in open grazing of cows in farms which creates conflicts,” they said.
