The Sacramento Airport is introducing a new program to help identify victims of human trafficking.
A new Human Trafficking Awareness and Reporting training program has been created by the Sacramento County Department of Airports in partnership with the Department of Homeland Security called the Blue Lightning Initiative (BLI). The program reportedly provides airport employees with the tools necessary to identify potential trafficked victims and notify federal authorities, including virtual training modules and printed educational materials.
A similar initiative was passed in 2018 by former Governer Jerry Brown, but only included human trafficking training for bus and light rail workers. An additional 10 airports, 26 airlines and six industry associations are reported to join the program.
