NEW HANOVER & BRUNSWICK COUNTIES, N.C. (WECT) - New Hanover County Health and Human Services and Brunswick County Health Services have expanded their vaccine availability to people 12 and older beginning Thursday, May 13.
After the FDA expanded Emergency Use Authorization for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to include 12-15-year-old children Monday, the CDCâs Advisory committee on Immunization Practices gave its formal approval Wednesday evening. This action opens vaccination to approximately 17 million adolescents.

NEW HANOVER, N.C. (WECT) - New Hanover County reported no additional deaths from COVID-19 over the past week despite 415 new cases being reported. To date, 17,772 people have tested positive for the virus in NHC and 163 people have died.
No increase in the number of deaths from COVID-19 over the past week marks the first seven-day period since October 23, 2020, that no additional deaths from the virus were reported of county residents.

2,200 school workers receive first COVID-19 vaccines in New Hanover County

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - More than 2,000 people working in education got COVID-19 shots Wednesday in New Hanover County.
The health department teamed up with NHRMC to host three clinics at the Pointe Movie Theater, the MLK Center, and Trask Middle School.
“I personally feel so lucky to have gotten this vaccine, I just think back to all the news stories I hear about teachers and even the students and even my own family members that didn’t I don’t get to see again because they didn’t make it. They weren’t able to get that vaccine,” said Destiney Acosta.
New Hanover County Public Health announced Tuesday that it has received additional supply of the COVID-19 vaccine from the state, and 1,410 new vaccine appointments now are available to healthcare workers and individuals who are 65 and older.
