The UNHCR Humanitarian Education Accelerator Programme 2021 for humanitarian education innovators

The Humanitarian Education Accelerator (HEA) is an Education Cannot Wait-funded programme led by UNHCR. The programme supports promising humanitarian education innovations to transition from successful pilots to programmes that can operate at scale – through capacity building, mentorship, peer learning and rigorous research. Since 2016, the HEA has supported nine grantees, operating in multiple contexts. The need to identify and bring to scale innovative solutions to the complex challenges surrounding humanitarian education has never been more pressing, particularly in low resource settings.  However, evidence on what works in humanitarian education, as well as how to effectively bring that to scale, is limited. As a result, practitioners, donors and policymakers have little information at their disposal to help them make informed decisions about how to spend scarce resources and work towards sustainable scale.

UNHCR & Education Cannot Wait launch second phase of the Humanitarian Education Accelerator (HEA) - seeking promising education innovations that are ready to scale Format Turning the commitments made on refugee education at the first Global Refugee Forum into concrete action requires innovative solutions, identifying what works and successfully scaling to meet the education needs of the millions of children who are living in emergency or crisis settings. Following the success of the first iteration of the HEA, the Education Cannot Wait (ECW) Acceleration Facility is funding UNHCR $2.2 million to identify and support a further cohort of education innovations, in 5 countries: Chad, Ethiopia, Jordan, Lebanon and Uganda.

Humanitarian Education Accelerator (HEA) Applicants Guide - World

Humanitarian Education Accelerator (HEA) Applicants’ Guide Format What is the HEA and how could it support your innovation? The Humanitarian Education Accelerator (HEA) was established in 2016, through an initial partnership between UNHCR, UNICEF and the UK Department for International Development - to generate evidence that supports the design and delivery of high-quality education innovations at scale for children affected by humanitarian crises, whilst also building internal capacity of implementers to identify and sustainably scale what works. Now funded by Education Cannot Wait and led by UNHCR, the HEA is continuing its support for promising humanitarian education innovations to transition from successful pilots to programmes that can operate at scale, in order to reach more children with quality education.
