Bheemili mandal saw the highest polling percentage of 55.28 followed by Anandapuram at 52.40%. The fourth phase of Gram Panchayat elections, being held in six mandals of Visakhapatnam city, reported 48.95% polling from 6.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m., here on February 21.
The polls are being held at Anandapuram, Bheemili, Padmanabham, Parawada, Sabbavaram and Pendurthi mandals.
Though the polling percentage was just 18.48% in the first two hours, it gradually picked up to 48.95% by 10.30 a.m. Bheemili mandal saw the highest polling percentage of 55.28 followed by Anandapuram at 52.40%.
A total of 279 sarpanch candidates are contesting for 103 posts and 1,965 candidates are in the fray for 904 ward members posts. About 117 sarpanch offices were notified for the elections, of which 14 were unanimously elected. Similarly, 295 of 1,200 ward members were unanimously elected.

Parishkaram, Marpu, Maddhatu, Bharosa, Nigha ensuring they get quick relief
The city police have launched five initiatives Parishkaram, Marpu, Maddhatu, Bharosa and Nigha to serve people.
Under the Parishkaram initiative, a pre-litigation counselling forum (PLCF) was started on October 10, last year, to solve land and civil litigation, as these cases were occupying a major part of the cases in the police stations. The PLCF was started in a room in Swarna Bharati Stadium and is headed by the Dwaraka ACP. So far, the forum has received 567 petitions and till date 62 have been solved.

Accused procured drugs from West Bengal: Police Commissioner
The Duvvada police arrested a 29-year-old man and recovered 1,500 ampoules of Pentazocine Lactate injections (sedative injections/drugs) near Vadlapudi hereon Thursday night. The seized sedatives are estimated to be worth about ₹30,000.
The arrested has been identified as Nakka Maheswara Reddy, an ex-offender and a resident of Allipuram in the city.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Police Commissioner Manish Kumar Sinha said that the accused had procured the sedatives from West Bengal through a courier service by submitting a fake declaration. Mr. Sinha said that the accused was caught while he was selling the sedatives to a customer.
‘People should not be inconvenienced during the agitation’
The police officials organised a meeting with all trade union leaders who are participating in the agitation against the proposed privatisation of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, here on Friday.
The meeting was held by Police Commissioner Manish Kumar Sinha at Duvvada Police Station near Kurmannapalem Junction.
Interacting with Mr. Sinha, the union leaders spoke about the struggles and sacrifices behind the setting up of the steel plant and how it developed over the years. They also cited the reasons on why they have launched the agitation.
The police officers clearly stated that there shall be no breakdown of law and order, and no inconvenience should be caused to people during the agitation.

Prompt response by the city police and noble gesture of an auto-rickshaw driver has helped a family to trace a missing bag containing ₹1 lakh cash, here on Wednesday. According to police, two brothers from Lakshmi Narasimha Colony had reportedly left a bag containing the cash and other belongings. Immediately, they lodged a complaint with the police. The police traced the vehicle. The auto-rickshaw driver was also unaware of the bag, as it was kept on the backside of the vehicle. The bag was handed over to the victim. Police Commissioner Manish Kumar Sinha appreciated the police officers for their efforts in social media.
