William M. Nelson, 29, Tomah died at the scene, according to authorities.
The department received a report of a motorcycle crash at 10:08 p.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, deputies located a 2002 Suzuki GSF 600 in the north ditch. The driver had been ejected from the motorcycle after it overturned going into the ditch and was injured. He succumbed to his injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
Highway 16 was closed for over an hour and the incident remains under investigation.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Monroe County 911 Communications Center, Monroe County Medical Examiner, Tomah Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Oakdale Fire Department, Tomah Area Ambulance Service, Tomah Rescue Technicians and Gundersen Air.

Rochester police say a city man and woman have been arrested in a robbery and assault that led to another woman s death.
51-year-old Alicia Saladyga was assaulted on April 7th and had property stolen from her hotel room. She was hospitalized for her injuries, but her condition got worse and she died on April 22nd.
Today, police identified 34-year-old Christopher Pate and 44-year-old Jennifer Shea as suspects in the case. Both were arrested without incident on charges of second degree assault, second degree robbery and first degree burglary. They face arraignment tomorrow morning (Fri) in Rochester City Court.
Investigators say they re waiting on an autopsy from the Monroe County Medical Examiner to determine if the case will be ruled a homicide. If so, additional charges may be presented to a grand jury.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) Christopher Pate, a Rochester man who was assaulted by a police officer during an arrest in 2018, is facing new charges after police say a woman died from injuries she sustained during an assault and robbery.
The incident happened on April 7, 2021, at a hotel on Mt. Read Boulevard.
Police say 51-year-old Alicia Saladyga was assaulted and robbed in her hotel room. At the time, she was hospitalized, but her condition worsened and she succumbed to her injuries on April 22.
