This new technological university designate will increase higher education access, drive enhanced regional development and increase opportunities for students, staff, business and enterprise, and local communities. This new TU – our third since 2019 - will now take its rightful place in the higher education landscape in the country’s heartlands. The new higher education institution of increased scale and reach will benefit the students and communities of Westmeath, Limerick, Tipperary, Clare and Offaly to name but some of the counties which will be served by the new university.

Tributes have been paid to a 22-year-old student who tragically died after falling into a blowhole in West Cork in a freak accident.
Conor King, a lifeguard and Munster Technological University student from Douglas in Cork City, suffered head injuries from the fall down the 50-foot blowhole on a cliff near the Old Head of Kinsale on Saturday evening.

King was part of a group of 10 or more people who were camping close to Garretstown Beach on Saturday and it is believed that he didn t see the entrance to the blowhole as he walked along the cliff-top in the gathering darkness on Saturday evening.

A biomedical engineering student and lifeguard who died after falling down coastal cliffs in Garretstown, West Cork during a camping trip with friends over the weekend was laid to rest on what would have been his 23rd birthday.
At Conor King’s funeral mass in St Patrick’s Church in Rochestown, Cork on Wednesday, his mother Maura told mourners her son had lived up to his surname.
