The first such degree was given in May 2019 to John Menard, the billionaire owner of the Menard’s home improvement chain.  It was was called a “doctorate of humane letters,” but there are some who would not necessarily think of Menard as a humanitarian. A successful businessman, yes: Menard’s is one of the biggest home improvement chains in the nation, with 325 stores and 41 manufacturing facilities located in 14 Midwestern states, and an advertising jingle, “Save big money at Menard’s,” we all probably know by heart.

Attempted homicide suspect appears in Dunn County Court

MENOMONIE —A Menomonie man accused of stabbing another person Nov. 1 appeared in Dunn County Court on Wednesday. Tasheen Goggins, 42, 1316 Main St., is charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide — use of a dangerous weapon and a count of mayhem. Goggins, who is incarcerated in the Dunn County Jail, appeared via video along with his attorney, Jonathon Lundeen. Lundeen requested a lower bond, but Judge Rod Smeltzer rejected that request. According to the criminal complaint filed in Dunn County Court: Police were called to Domino’s on Broadway Street in Menomonie for a man with a stab wound. They arrived and found bystanders applying pressure to the victim’s wound.
