MANTORVILLE, Minn. A 68-year-old woman died in an apartment building fire Thursday morning, Feb. 4, in Mantorville, Minn.
Cynthia Ferguson was identified as the victim by Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose. Ferguson s cause of death was unknown as of Thursday evening.
In addition to the death, five people were taken to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys Campus in Rochester, with at least one person in critical condition, Rose said. All five were being treated for various levels of smoke inhalation, Rose said in a news release shortly before 5 p.m.

Two people were being treated for multiple gunshot wounds late Wednesday night after police received a report of multiple shootings in Northwest Rochester.
Police responded around 9:20 p.m. to a shooting at the Heritage Manor apartment complex on 18 1/2 Avenue Northwest. The victim suffered two gunshots to the chest, Sgt. Jared Pankratz said at the scene. He said broken glass and shell casings were found in the parking lot of the apartment complex, and that multiple witnesses heard the shots.

AUSTIN, Minn. The man charged with fatally stabbing a 15-year-old boy who was trying to protect his mother from an assault pleaded not guilty to the charges Monday morning, Dec. 28.
Jaime Arquimides Vaca, 27, of Austin, Minn., pleaded not guilty in Mower County District Court to charges of second-degree murder-not premeditated, second-degree murder-while committing a felony-without intent, attempted second-degree murder-not premeditated-with intent and first-degree assault-great bodily harm.
He has been held on $500,00 conditional bail since his first court appearance on Dec. 16.
