MIDDLETOWN Officials and residents celebrated two years worth of award celebrations in one event Friday, as the city honored Arbor Day with a tree dedication ceremony.
Jane Harris, arborist and chairwoman of the Urban Forestry Commission, pointed out one of the many benefits of trees as gusty winds swirled during the event.
Saugatuck celebrates Arbor Day with tree planting
SAUGATUCK Saugatuck council members, city staff and members of the city s tree board planted a tree at Wicks Park Friday in honor of Arbor Day.
The ceremony is a tradition dating back 17 years and part of the city s commitment to maintaining its status as a part of the Arbor Day Foundation s Tree City USA program.
Friday, officials helped shovel dirt to plant a Redpointe Red Maple on the edge of the Kalamazoo River. The new maple replaces a tree that had died due to water saturation from the flooding that has plagued Wicks Park the past several years.
As Arbor Day approaches, the City of Key West urges the community to think of the canopy and plant a tree because it is âJust another way to keep Key West beautiful.â
Arbor Day is observed nationally to celebrate the role of trees in our lives and promote tree planting and care. The City of Key West has long recognized the importance of its trees and its environment and has been a member of Tree City USA for nine years.
âTrees on publicly and privately owned property within the city are economic and aesthetic asset to the citizens,â says Urban Forester Karen DeMaria, âbecause of their important and meaningful contribution to a healthy and beautiful community.â
