WAUSAU – If you ve ever wondered what it would be like to have a dog serve in public office, well, it s pretty dang cute.
Cicero, an 11-year-old chihuahua mix, was named deputy mayor for a day April 23 by Wausau Mayor Katie Rosenberg. He adventured around town with Rosenberg, stealing the hearts of city staff, business owners, students and police officers.
Rosenberg said she saw the Marathon County Humane Society s Facebook post about Cicero, who was put up for adoption April 21.
The shelter shared a photo of Cicero with his big, dark eyes and his tongue sticking out. They described him as a handsome grumpy old man who likes to lay by your feet or take peaceful naps on your lap. Cicero has no teeth, which means he s on a special diet of canned food.

WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) The search is on for a dog who went missing after getting spayed.
The Marathon County Humane Society is looking for a female black lab named Tux. Tux got loose on Tuesday morning after getting spayed at Paw Health Network in Kronenwetter. Tux is part of a group of dogs that were surrendered to the shelter from Bevent in December of 2020 with little to no human contact.
Tux is wearing a blue inflatable recovery collar and is wearing a slip leash. She was most recently seen Wednesday morning around 7:45 a.m. on W Nelson Road near Happy Hollow.
