Marion County releases COVID guidance for 2021-2022 school year

Updated: 5:34 PM EDT July 23, 2021 INDIANAPOLIS The Marion County Public Health Department released guidance for the 2021-2022 school year Friday as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. The health department is recommending cohorting students, three-foot social distancing, and mask-wearing for students and staff who are not vaccinating. Masks are also recommended for anyone with underlying health conditions, regardless of vaccination status. MCPHD is also recommending students and staff who are close contacts of a positive COVID-19 case quarantine for 10 days unless they are fully vaccinated. Fully vaccinated individuals who are close contacts of a positive coronavirus case will only need to quarantine if they develop symptoms.

That s nowhere near the numbers seen at the start of the pandemic. But there is an upward trend in the last few weeks. Health officials and data analysts continue to preach vaccination as the best way to prevent serious infection.  The Marion County Public Health Department brought the COVID vaccine downtown with a mobile clinic over four days during the past two weeks. The state vaccination rate for eligible Hoosiers 12 and older is 50.1 percent. Indianapolis is just slightly higher at 51.3 percent.   

Indiana Attorney General sues pair of Indianapolis apartment complexes

Jul 20, 2021 / 10:35 PM EST INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) The owners of two Indianapolis apartment complexes are being sued by Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita. Rokia says over time, they’ve put thousands of people in danger. The lawsuit is against the companies that manage the Fox Club and the Lakeside Pointe apartments. In the lawsuit, Rokita says a yearlong investigation found people living at the Lakeside Pointe complex suffered through fires, lack of heat and air conditioning, water damage, mold, broken windows and other uninhabitable conditions. Additionally, the Marion County Public Health Department has issued Fox Lake more than 600 violation notices since 2017. Last month, Rokita said Fox Lake failed to pay a $1 million bill owed to Citizens Energy, putting tenants at risk of having their water shut off.
